Media

 

Colored pencil:

Black pencil is used to define the overall composition; applied prior to laying down color media

 

Greenish-blue pencil is applied in the cloud in the URC, in the octopus in the lower center and in some of the figure’s clothes at top

 

Red pencil is applied in the URC in the cloud and in the figure’s cloths and spear tip  in the center area

A very hard media was used to define the octopus, leaving incised/indented lines (possibly a pencil with a lot of binding medium)

 

Charcoal may have been used in combination with black pencil in the clouds and octopus—study further

 

Technical Notes

Composition

 

Drawing to sheet edges:

Most media extends to the edges. Media is limited along the top edge; and the black pencil lines do not consistently extend along the lower left edge

 

Drawing into adjacent sheet:

Little composition relates to 4C; two tentacles extend down to 4C at center bottom edge in like media, but the drawn line does not extend across joined edges  (one tentacle abruptly ends at the sheet edge)

 

The clouds along the right side continue into 3D, though the handling of the lines, which are cross hatched and differ from the diagonal parallel lines in 3D; the media is generally similar between the two sheets

 

The hot air balloon and tiny bird imagery and media extends into 3B

Compositional changes/additions:

The clouds continue into 3D, though the handling of lines differs, the cross-hatched lines become diagonal parallel lines in 3D
