Dimensions:

22.4 x 34.4 cm

Cut edge:

Paper type:

Ivory wove paper, discolored to tan

Pinholes:

Two upper center and two lower center at either side of the vertical center crease (each pair appears to correspond in placement as if the sheet were folded in half and pinned at the edge); in the upper center-left and upper center-right and LRC

 Additional notes:

Sewing holes:

Center, 5.8 and 14.4 cm from top edge

Edges overlapping adj. sheet:

Left edge and possibly left bottom edge

Edges extending below adj. sheet:

Right bottom edge, top and right edges

Edges abutting adj. sheet:

Media

Colored pencil:

Black pencil is used to define the overall composition; applied prior to laying down color media

Reddish orange pencil is applied in the lower right area

Yellow pencil is applied in some of the rays

Blue pencil is applied at the upper left side and at the center bottom edge of the rays and clouds respectively; and in the sky at the right top edge

Pastel:

Blue pastel is applied over the blue pencil along the right top edge; the media does not extend below overlapping edges; traces of blue pastel are visible in the clouds

Yellow pastel is applied over yellow pencil in the rays

Light pink pastel is visible in the ULC of the rays

Composition

Drawing to sheet edges:

Drawing in black pencil used to create the billowing clouds is absent along the center-right bottom edge under overlap; additionally red colored pencil is absent entirely in this area, below overlapping edge, though it extends into 2G

Pastel is absent along the top and right edges.

All media appears to be absent along a narrow area that was formerly overlapped by 2H

Drawing into adjacent sheet:

The black cloud at the center left edge, corresponds directly over to 2E; One drawn black pencil line extends directly below to join into 3G; blue and black pencil smoke stack in LRC extends below into 3G

Compositional changes/additions:

Clouds appear to have been executed after 3G was joined to it, overlapping its bottom edge (although the cross-hatched rays were an original part of the composition, exiting below the join); some areas of the clouds are reworked over pre-existing drawing; and the bottom cloud executed in dark black pencil was added over the blue pencil
