Media

Colored pencil:

Black pencil is used to define the overall composition; applied prior to laying down color media; there are two different densities of black pencil

A darker black pencil is used overall to strengthen lines, particularly in the figure’s eyes and in the artist’s signature and date LRC; the black pencil is drawn over all other media, including colored pencil, pastel and white gouache and red watercolor

A dark blue pencil is used to create lines along the bottom and upper right edge, and is visible below and over pastel; and in the figure’s eyes

Greenish blue pencil is applied along the upper right side, below pastel and blue pencil, and in the upper center and upper right, in the figure’s eyes and lower left in his neck

Orange-red pencil lines and shading are applied in the figure’s eyes, cheeks, nose and mouth

Graphite:

Pastel:

Bright blue pastel is applied over the colored pencil and extends along the bottom edge from 8H

Greenish blue pastel is applied in the ULC and along the upper right side/edge, over which dark blue pencil lines are drawn

Watercolor:

Possibly a light grayish tan watercolor wash overall that extends across into 8H

White gouache is applied in highlight the eyes and teeth and lips (wash)

Touches of brownish red watercolor is applied at the lower center left side, in the figure’s mouth and just below the mouth, and in the upper left quadrant in the figure’s eyes
