Media

Colored pencil:

Black pencil is used to define the overall composition; applied prior to laying down color media; a few lines of a dark black pencil are applied at the center-right bottom edge to continue the crown/rays motif from 3I figure

Blue pencil was applied in the sky and is visible along the top edge below the overlapped edge

Yellow pencil is applied in the rays, below the yellow pastel

Greenish blue pencil is applied in the lower center area

Reddish-orange pencil/conte crayon is used over blue and black pencil to create rays extending from figure’s crown at bottom edge and extending into 3I, joining the composition; and in the rays at the upper left

Pastel:

Blue pastel is added in the sky over the blue pencil

Yellow pastel is added over yellow pencil in the rays

Traces of orange-red pastel applied at bottom edge, extend below into 3H (similar to that in 4D)

Graphite:

None visible

Scratching:

Additional media notes:

There is an additional bright slightly greenish blue pastel at the lower right edge, that possibly relates to pastel on the canvas

Technical Notes

Composition

Drawing to sheet edges:

All edges

Drawing into adjacent sheet:

Minimal direct relationship to composition above; thick red pencil/conte crayon is used above to complete the figure’s crown rays; blue pastel lines correspond directly above

Compositional changes/additions:

Black and red crown/rays above figure at right bottom edge appear to be added over the blue pencil, possibly later addition/visual device?

Artist’s patches:

Former restoration:

Small rectangular restoration patches in the upper center-left and center-left bottom edge over damaged areas; *In before treatment images it appears that blue pastel is drawn over the patches—examine further
