Media

Pastel:

Bright blue pastel was applied over the blue pencil in the upper sky passage, after the sheet edges were joined

Bright yellow pastel in the ray of light in the lower right area was applied over the black pencil, in most cases over the yellow pencil, and over the blue pastel

Colored pencil:

Dark black pencil was used minimally to define areas of sky and sun ray, as well as in the 3A bird-creature’s tuft at the right bottom edge, linking the composition to 3A and in the tiny birds; the black pencil is applied over the greenish blue colored pencil

Blue pencil in the sky, is visible below pastel passage and traces appear along the top edge that was formerly overlapped by 1A (confirm)

Greenish-blue pencil is applied in the sky passage in the bottom area

Yellow pencil in ray of light and appears largely below yellow pastel though inconsistent

Graphite:

There are a couple of graphite lines that extends from the center right and lower right area defining the ray of light passage

Watercolor:

Scratching:

Additional media notes:

Does the pastel reveal patterns from the canvas mount?

Technical Notes

Composition

Drawing to sheet edges:

Drawing in pastel is minimal (possibly only through transfer) along the top edge, below overlap

Drawing into adjacent sheet:

Drawing in pastel along the top edge directly crosses over joined edges, indicating that the pastel was applied after the sheets were joined

Compositional changes/additions:

Blue pastel drawn lines in sky correspond directly above in 1A

Blue pastel drawn lines in sky correspond directly across into 1B.

Top feather tuft of bird (?) in black pencil extend over greenish-blue pencil; bird motifs continue generally below

Artist’s patches:

Former restoration:

Small rectangular restoration patch was applied on the drawing surface in the lower right area
