Media

Graphite:

Graphite is used to define the overall composition.

Colored pencil:

Black pencil is used to strengthen certain areas of the composition, such as in the crescent and some of the elaborate creatures in the upper left quadrant and center left side

Greenish blue pencil is used throughout in many of the grotesques/creatures

Touches of red conté crayon/pencil are used to suggest explosions through the center and in the figure in the upper right corner

It is unclear if green pencil was used due to the diminished quality of the drawing

Pastel:

Watercolor:

See comments in notes below

Scratching:

Additional media notes:

Touches of an unidentified transparent light yellow medium is used a faint transparent yellow medium was used to highlight a creatures legs, a figure’s hat and cloak (?) and a propeller/dragonfly (similar to 4C and 4F); could this have been a ‘golden color or faded lake?

Composition

Drawing to sheet edges:

All edges

Drawing into adjacent sheet:

There is little composition that directly extends across the edges, though in some areas this is difficult to asses due to the diminished quality of the drawing overall.

Few drawn lines extend above into 3B; the figure’s head at center top edge ends abruptly at the edge; the only connection made between the two sheets is through the extension of legs from an insect-like creature at the top edge. Red media along the top edge transfers directly over the sheet edges.

Additionally, at the left edge, lines forming the outer center of the crescent and the tubular form at the top left edge serve as awkward extensions of the composition; the small faces at the bottom right edge are the most clear extensions into 4A (it appears that these connect best when the edges are overlapped)

No lines appear to directly correspond to 4B above
